Can Brighton finish Sixth?
- It’s possible, but the stars need to align — a Brighton win, combined with defeats for Aston Villa(4th) and Bournemouth(6th), and a Liverpool(5th) victory.
- Should that happen, Brighton would secure Champions League football for the first time in their history.

Bruno Fernandes has a chance to claim the all-time single-season assist record outright
- One more assist, his 21st, would seal it.
[ Things to Watch ]
- Bruno Fernandes‘ 21st assist — the record is within reach.
- Fringe players getting minutes
- Players who have struggled for game time, such as Ugarte and Yoro, are likely to get a run out here. For Ugarte in particular, this could be his last chance to make an impression in a United shirt.
- Youth players making their mark
- Michael Carrick confirmed in his pre-match interview that some younger faces will feature. Given the importance of setting up Bruno’s record-breaking assist, we wouldn’t expect a youngster to start in attack — more likely they slot in through midfield or defense, or come off the bench.
- Players expected to feature: Shea Lacey (RW), Tyler Fletcher (DM), Jim Thawaites (MC), Diego Leon (LB)

- Passes(p90): Accurate 10.5(79%), Acc. opposition half 6.2(73%)
- Duels(p90): Ground Duels won 1.3(38%), Aerial Duels won 0.5(35%)
A familiar face — and one that always seems to turn up against his former club. Despite his age, Welbeck remains one of the rare veterans who still plays with genuine quality. It’s not just the goals; his involvement across the entire attacking phase makes him a constant threat. United will need to keep tabs on him from first whistle to last.

carlos baleba

- Passes(p90): Accurate 21.0(86%), Acc. own half 12.2(94%), Acc. opposition half 8.8(78%), Acc. Long Balls 1.1(56%)

- Duels(p90): Ground Duels won 2.3(47%), Aerial Duels won 0.9(57%)
United’s reported transfer target — and this match offers a chance to see him up close. A well-rounded defensive midfielder who contributes to Brighton’s build-up as well as their press, Baleba is their engine in the middle. Watching how he handles United’s attack and transitions into counter-pressing will be a useful gauge of whether he’s ready to fit into a United midfield role.

jan paul van hecke

- Passes(p90): Accurate 61.0(87%), Acc. own half 37.3(94%), Acc. opposition half 23.7(78%), Acc. Long Balls 3.7(47%)

- Duels(p90): Ground Duels won 2.7(64%), Aerial Duels won 3.1(58%)
Solid defensively, dominant in duels, and with genuine attacking quality to boot — van Hecke is the complete package at the back. How much United can make him uncomfortable will be one of the more intriguing challenges for the attacking line on the day.

[ how to break them down ]
( Attack the Space Behind Lewis Dunk )

- Brighton need a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive, which means we can expect a high-tempo, high-intensity performance — aggressive pressing, an attacking approach, and a high defensive line throughout.
- In transition, Brighton’s last line of defense falls to their two centre-backs, Jan Paul van Hecke and Lewis Dunk. Dunk, the older of the two, has never been the quickest, making the space in behind him a natural target. Should things get desperate, van Hecke may push forward, leaving Dunk to hold the line alone — which could open up more space than Brighton would like.
- The pace of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo makes them the perfect weapons to exploit exactly that.
( Defensively — Block the Pocket Space )

- Brighton’s left winger Yankuba Minteh will look to stretch play wide and win his 1v1, while Danny Welbeck and Jack Hinshelwood operate in a Double False 9 shape — dropping deep before threading into the pockets of space between United’s defensive lines. With Minteh deployed on his natural side, expect more crosses and cutbacks than inside runs, with Welbeck and Hinshelwood timing their runs to convert.
- The first line of defence is Noussair Mazraoui winning his battle against Minteh. Keeping Minteh in check cuts off Brighton’s primary attacking route at the source.
- But the bigger challenge is dealing with those two forwards in the pockets. Brighton’s preferred move is to have Welbeck drop deep, drag a centre-back out of position, then have either Hinshelwood or Welbeck himself exploit the space left behind. The most effective counter? Have Manuel Ugarte pick up the pocket runners directly, rather than leaving it to the centre-backs.
- How well United execute this could be the difference between a clean sheet and a costly mistake — and for Ugarte, it may also go a long way in determining his future at the club.
